A man has been killed by a herd of elephants in Mondulkiri province while walking through the jungle with a friend.
Police say the incident happened in Oraing district on Thursday.
“The two men were walking deep into the forest with their dog to look for mushrooms when the dog suddenly spotted a young elephant, got frightened and ran over to the men,” said a police spokesman.
“The young elephant, along with several adult elephants charged towards them and trampled one of the men. The other man and the dog managed to escape to the nearest village.”
The victim was identified as Srot Pyorl, whose funeral was held on Friday.
In April, an elephant trampled its owner to death in Mondulkiri while it was being used to carry tourists through the jungle.
Sightseers begged for the animal to be released from its shackles so they could get a better photo with it.
The 60-year-old bull elephant had his chains released but it wandered off unattended. Its owner ran after it and his body was later found in the jungle.
